It was a sad moment for the families, workmates and Western Provincial Administration as a whole as they farewell 6 public servants from various divisions within the provincial administration for their service.
The event was attended by families, workmates, staff members from various divisions, and dignitaries from the District and Provincial Administration on Monday at New Century Hotel in Kiunga.
The eight retirees made known their retirement intentions end of last year.
The retirees are; Mr. Jimmy Woia, Mr. David Sonny, Ms. Caroline Bani, Mr. Wilfred Gaso, Mr. Phillip Gasuat, Ms. Bugon Katet,
Mr. Jimmy Woia, served 49 years of service to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with the Teaching Service Commission, Catholic Education Agency and retired as a Coordinator Community Government Relations Officer with the Western Provincial Administration. He served from July 22 in year 1975 to November, 25 year 2022.
Mr. David Soni, served 44 years to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with the Department of Primary Industries, Inspector Village Court, and retired as a Provincial Disaster Officer with the Western Provincial Administration in November 2022.
Ms. Caroline Bani served 28 years of service to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with the Western Provincial Administration from 1994 to November, 2022. She served the department of transport and civil aviation as a clerk, Western Provincial Planning Division, Finance and retired as finance and accounting officer.
Mr. Wilfred Gaso served 44 years of service to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with Milne Bay and Western Provincial Administration from
1978 to the 28th of November, 2022. He served the department of agriculture in Milne Bay Province, District Planner for South Fly and retired as a deputy provincial administrator for Western Province
Mr. Philip Gasuat served 48 years of service to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with Teaching Service, Department of Defence, Milne Bay and Western Provincial Administration. He joined Western Provincial Administration on June 23, 1996 and retired in December 28, 2022.
Ms. Bugon Katet, has served 29 years of service to the Papua New Guinea Public Service as a Public Servant with the Western Provincial Administration from October 17, 1993 to the 25th of November, 2022. She was attached with LLG Affairs and retired as an admin officer with the Kiunga Rural LLG.
Keynote speaker and provincial administrator for Western Province Mr. Robert Alphonse Kayun encouraged the public servants to at least retire early and enjoy their entitlements rather working to old age or death catches along the way and entitlements are enjoyed by the children which is not rightfully their children’s.
“Your departure is a big loss to the administration now as it is hard to find skilled and experienced people” Mr. Kayun said
Mr. Kayun thanked and wished the retirees best of luck in their retirement and future endeavours.
Mr. Kayun on behalf of the department of personal management also issued certificates of service to retirees.
Meantime, Mr. Kaiomen Ningin, Human Resource Manager for Western Provincial Administration said the similar farewell party will also be organized for public servants in Daru.
The farewell party was organized by the Western Provincial Human Resource Division as a sign of appreciation to the retirees.
