Works and Highways Minister and Telefomin MP, Solan Mirisim, has urged the immediate commencement of the Frieda River Copper and Gold Project, describing it as a game-changing development for Telefomin and Papua New Guinea.
Minister Mirisim highlighted that the long-delayed project carries enormous potential to stimulate economic growth, generate employment, and deliver much-needed infrastructure to one of the country’s most isolated regions.
“The Frieda River Project is more than a mining venture it represents a gateway to opening up Telefomin, providing roads, services, and opportunities for our people. I strongly believe this project must proceed without further delay,” Minister Mirisim stated.
He stressed that when managed responsibly, resource developments can serve as engines of progress, bringing broad benefits at both local and national levels.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the project advances in a way that balances economic gains with environmental protection and social responsibility.
