A major road accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2025 at around 4:00 pm at Kilometre 64, near Tea Wara, along the Kiunga–Tabubil Highway in North Fly District.
The collision involved a 25-seater PMV bus and a Hino Dyna truck.
Tragically, two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained critical injuries and are now receiving urgent medical attention in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kiunga District Hospital’s Outpatient Department.
Locals and passing motorists acted swiftly, assisting in rescue efforts alongside Matkomnae Health Centre’s ambulance team. The deceased were transported to Kiunga District Hospital by an ambulance, while the two victims who were critically injured were rushed down by a private vehicle.
With the growing number of vehicles on the Kiunga–Tabubil Highway, authorities are again reminding the public that road safety remains a top priority.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Western Star will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
