The Kiunga District Hospital in North Fly District recorded no major casualties on new year eve as confirmed by the hospital.
The staff on duty at the Out Patient Department (OPD) said there were no emergency cases recorded on new year eve.
The hospital staff said there was only one minor casualty which was alcohol related.
The man who sustained minor injuries was from Kokonda village at the outskirts of Kiunga township.
According to the man’s wife, she said her husband went out drinking with his wantoks which turn out to having her husband sustaining minor injuries on his head.
The patient was admitted at the OPD and was discharged at around 10am yesterday just when the media were at the hospital vicinity to get updates from the hospital.
Meantime, the new year eve in Kiunga was peaceful with less number of drunkards on the streets as Kiunga Police maintained their operations and kept everything under control.
The liquor ban is still effective until tomorrow, Tuesday, January 3 in which outlets are authorized to go back to normal business operations as given a ban notice by the Chairman- Fly River Provincial Liquor Licensing Commission & Board and Provincial Administrator for Western Province, Mr. Robert Alphonse Kayun.
